Remote Events Moderator

Moderate remote YPA events with topics ranging from trivia nights to interviews with publishing professionals. 

Responsibilities 

• Create/review questions specific for each event and panel 

• Keep panels or meetings running on schedule by setting and holding time limits

Communications Coordinator

Working under the Communications Manager, make sure internal operations run smoothly by ensuring the comms team has enough time to meet deadlines and problem-solving when necessary. 

Responsibilities 

• Assign tasks to appropriate members of comms team

• Send reminders and contact assignees to ensure tasks are being completed on time

Blog Writers (2 open positions)

As the YPA blog grows, we are looking for in-house writers to make sure our content stays consistent. 

Responsibilities 

• Come up with and write publishing-related post ideas for the YPA blog

• Contact potential publishing interview subjects for written blog interviews

• Reports to the Blog Manager

Graphic Designer

With the YPA growing and expanding to new cities, we are looking to add another graphic designer to our wonderful graphics team. 

Responsibilities

• Create social media graphics to promote YPA events online

• Work with the graphics team to develop graphics projects for our website, merch, brand kits, etc. 

NYC In-Person Committee Co-Chair (2 open positions)

We are looking for two co-chairs to replace the outgoing committee chair and keep the momentum of the New York Chapter going. The NYC chapter regularly holds 2 events a month and is looking to expand on the types of programming it offers. This role requires the ability to manage and stay organized, supporting the committee members as they execute their events while keeping an eye on the big picture. Those passionate about the publishing community and excel at leading a team are encouraged to apply.

Duration: 1 year (minimum)

Responsibilities

• Run 2x monthly committee meetings, assisting volunteers in the planning and implementation of their events

• Review/approve copy and graphics for upcoming events

• Occasionally staff events, both solo and in support of other committee members

• Help develop long-term growth strategies, expanding the types of events YPA offers as well as the types of communities it caters to (i.e. those seeking to enter the industry, 1-3 years in, 3-5 years in)

• Revamp organization of committee, creating more defined roles and responsibilities, to ensure accountability and clear delineation of duties 

• Oversee yearly YPA Winter Ball, organization’s major fundraiser, working with our sponsor the Frankfurt Book Fair to ensure the event at the Goethe Institute is a success. Establish plans for food, beverages, music, and raffle.

• Proactively reach out to other local organizations to create partnerships and collaborations

Portland In-Person Committee Co-Chair (1 open position)

The Portland Chapter is currently in its infancy, so the primary work of this role will be to work with the existing co-chair to get the committee up and running in order to start hosting events. It requires someone with a mind for organization who can support and encourage the committee members to pursue novel ideas for building community in the pacific northwest. Those passionate about publishing and building something from the ground up are encouraged to apply

Duration: 1 year (minimum)

Responsibilities

• Run regular committee meetings, assisting volunteers in the planning and implementation of their events

• Establish a timetable for a kickoff event and a plan for the initial slate of programming

• Support the committee members as they develop event ideas and start to engage with the Portland community

• Review/approve copy and graphics for upcoming events

• Occasionally staff events, both solo and in support of other committee members

• Proactively reach out to other local organizations to create partnerships and collaborations

NYC In-Person Committee Volunteer

Volunteers for the In-Person Committee should have a passion for connecting with others and are motivated to build community. Those who are self-starters, people who are itching to take an idea and run with it, are highly encouraged to apply. It is a great introduction to the organization as a whole and provides volunteers with access to an established network of publishing professionals.

Duration: 6 months (minimum)

Responsibilities

• Attend 2x monthly committee meetings, provide feedback and assisting with the planning of events

• Brainstorm and develop ideas for new events to further serve the NY publishing community

• Staff events, both ones that you have pitched and those being run by other committee members

• Assist with the planning and execution of the Winter Ball, the YPA’s primary fundraiser and major event of the year

Portland In-Person Committee Volunteer

Volunteers for the In-Person Committee should have a passion for connecting with others and are motivated to build community. Those who are self starters, people who are itching to take an idea and run with it, are highly encouraged to apply. It is a great introduction to the organization as a whole and provides volunteers with access to an established network of publishing professionals. It a great opportunity to build something from the ground up, with the assistance of an already established organization.

Duration: 6 months (minimum)

Responsibilities

• Attend regular committee meetings, providing feedback and assisting with the planning of events

• Brainstorm and develop ideas for new events to further serve the Portland publishing community

• Staff events, both ones that you have pitched and those being run by other committee members

• Engage with Portland community to raise awareness of new chapter

Finance Committee Chair (1 open position)

Volunteers for the Finance Committee do not need experience in grant writing or fundraising, but must possess a desire to learn. The YPA is attempting to grow and continue to develop its programming, but in order to do so, the organization needs access to funds. Working on the Finance Committee plays a critical role in allowing the organization to expand, and it will allow volunteers to learn about the important and unheralded work of nonprofit fundraising, while connecting them to an established network of publishing professionals.

Duration: 6 months (minimum)

• Assist chair with executing fundraising campaigns

• Coordinate with chair to identify funding opportunities
